“I Quit” Comparing – Sermon June 17

I Quit Comparing

Let me tell you a few stories from the Bible to help us see why comparing ourselves and our situation to other people is such a miserable way to live. We’ll conclude by asking, “How do you get free from that?”

Cain and Abel (Genesis 4)
Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau,
David and Saul (1 Samuel 18)

There is another way. There is a better way.
John the Baptist (John 3:22-30)

Here are a couple of questions to take home:
1. Who am I comparing myself to?
2. Who has God made me to be, and how can I be content with that and use it for God’s glory?
What’s the joy God has for me? What are the gifts God has given to me? What’s the task God has assigned me?
Extra credit: Ask yourself, Am I doing the best at what God has made me to be?

John 21:15-22 – To follow Jesus with the life he’s given you…that’s life.
