Give Presence (1 Corinthians 3:9-13)
This week many of us will give presents. It’s just what we do. I want to challenge you this week to take an additional step, “to give presence”. That can become a much more significant Christmas gift than anything we ever planned.
These verses in 1 Thessalonians 3 show us a Christmas list (three lists, actually) that we can make for our family and friends. Let’s take a look at them.
1. Make a list of the most important people in your life. (v. 9)
a. Thank God for bringing them into your life.
b. Tell them how much they mean to you.
2. Make a list of intangible gifts you can give to each one. (v. 10)
3. Make a wish list for each one, and share that list with them and with God. (v. 12-13)
If you’ll take the time to pray for the people in your life, two things will happen.
a. You’ll strengthen that person.
b. You’ll strengthen your relationship to that person.
The first Christmas was about “God With Us”. Let’s make this Christmas about “Us With God”
Maybe see the joy of Christ in our kid’s laughter
The love of Christ with our family
The heart of Christ in the gifts we give
The provision of Christ in the meals we share
The light of Christ as we decorate our homes
The wonder of Christ in the songs we sing
The hope of Christ in the quiet moments we share
Because when we see Jesus we’re getting Christmas right.
