Choose Peace (Series – The Good Life) Sermon May 7

Choose Peace (James 4:1-12, Ephesians 5:21-33)

The question of the morning: Why do we fight with others…especially with those closest to us….?

Let me suggest a definition for you: Peace – I am free from anxiety and quarrelsome behavior because things are right between God, others, and myself.

James asks the question, “What causes fights and quarrels among you?”
His answer: “You want what you can’t obtain.”

What are some things that we want?

Strategies we use for fighting.
Strategy #1: The Bomb.
Strategy #2: Hand-to-Hand Combat.
Strategy #3: Boycott.
Strategy #4: Calling in Supporting Troops.
Strategy #5: Calling on a Higher Power.

James gives us five cures for the fighting and quarreling.
Principle #1: Give yourself over to God’s desires. (James 4:7) (Ephesians 5:21-33)
Principle #2: Stay clear of the devil. (James 4:7)
Principle #3: Come near to God. (James 4:8-9)
Principle #4: Humble yourself before God. (James 4:10)
Principle #5: Stop playing God—or the Devil. (James 4:11-12)

Choose peace.
